Beware of octopuses bearing coconut halves

Greetings.

Jewish date:  29 Kislew 5770 (Parashath MiqQeṣ).

Today’s quasi-holidays:  Barbie and Barney Backlash Day, National Chocolate Covered Anything Day.

Worthy cause of the day:  “WakeUpWalMart.com - Hope for the Holidays 2009”.

NOTE:  I took a lot of flack yesterday over my comments on Esperanto from Esperanto enthusiasts.  If any Esperanto enthusiasts want to submit something on what is wrong with Hebrew, equivalent to what I posted on Esperanto, I will give it serious consideration.

Today’s news and commentary:

Today’s weird thing is “A tool-wielding octopus? This invertebrate builds armor from coconut halves”.  I never expected octopuses to do that, which goes to show how full of surprises reality is.  Enjoy, share the weirdness, and happy Ḥanukkah.

There's nothing wrong with Hebrew; it's a perfectly good language -- why should Esperantists care to denigrate it?

In fact, I have in the past read arguments by Esperantists that Ben Yehuda's invention of Modern Hebrew is in some sense the only "created language" project to ever succeed on the same order as Zamenhof's project for an international auxiliary language, even though it's purposes and origins were somewhat different.

So all an Esperantist would say is, Bravo! :-) (And maybe ask a few questions about it's history, culture, and unique linguistic features.)

On the other topic, perhaps the usual estimate of octopus intelligence being comparable to that of the domestic cat needs to be revised? Or is this just because cats don't have anything to fulfill the role of hands?
